Hypnosis FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Stop Smoking Forever™

1. What is the Definition of Hypnosis?

Hypnosis refers to a state of heightened concentration combined with deep relaxation that can be used to address the beliefs or root causes behind issues, behaviors or fears experienced by individuals.

The hypnosis experience itself feels like a peaceful daydream, or drifting off into a nap, or unwinding in your favorite chair after a busy day at work. But, hypnosis is not like sleeping. You're very relaxed, in a sleepy dream-like state, but you are still aware and responsive to suggestions given during the hypnosis session.

2. What is Hypnosis Used For?

The psychological and medical communities have recognized hypnosis since 1958. It has proven highly effective in helping patients quit smoking lose weight, conquer phobias (such as fear of spiders, fear of heights or fear of flying), to improve focus for test performance, to manage chronic pain and much more. To date there are over 400 documented applications for hypnosis.

3. How Does Hypnosis Work?

Simply put, hypnosis puts your mind into such a highly focused, yet super relaxed state which allows suggestions and information to bypass the analytical part of your mind.

When you're in this state your subconscious mind becomes highly receptive to positive suggestions which can help to change your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors related to quitting nicotine and ceasing smoking.

For a hypnosis session to be effective there are factors to consider. The most important factors for hypnosis session to work, for example, for a smoking cessation session are (a) your strong and clear desire to stop smoking, (b) being in a state of deeply relaxed focus, and (c) specific and effective language and visualization in relationship to your emotions.

4. Is Hypnosis Scientifically Proven?

Yes, absolutely. Scientists, medical doctors and clinical psychologists recognize hypnosis as a valid and effective process. It’s studied in psychology and neuroscience and used to help with various issues, like smoking, weight loss, anxiety and stress, or bad habits. There is so much research demonstrating the effectiveness of hypnosis that it would be impossible to list it all here.

5. Is Hypnosis Safe and Will I Lose Control During Hypnosis?

Yes, hypnosis is safe. And no, you won’t lose control.

Hypnosis is a natural state. Everyone experiences hypnosis several times a day – but especially as we are falling asleep and then again in the morning as we are waking up.

While in hypnosis you are and remain aware and you can even choose to stop it at any time if you want to.

With hypnosis, your subconscious mind will only allow and accept ideas that it believes will be helpful or positive for your experience and life. So, contrary to Las Vegas stage hypnotist shows, nobody can make you quack like a duck, cluck like a chicken, or write checks to strangers - unless you are already willing and you want to.

12. Will I Remember What Happens During Hypnosis?

Most people consciously remember anywhere from “a little” to “some” of their smoking cessation hypnosis experience. A small number of people consciously remember wither “none” or “a lot” - but very few people fit into these categories.

The great news - and most important fact - is that your subconscious mind remembers100% and remembers every single part of your hypnosis session.

Again, everyone is different, and how much you personally remember or consciously recall is often determined by how deep you go into hypnosis, how your mind tracks things, and how you remember experiences, and how strong or relaxed your memory and recall are relative to the hypnotic state.

13. How is Hypnosis Different from Meditation?

In both hypnosis and meditation the initial goal is to relax and focus your mind. There are several differences. For example, in meditation we are supposed to watch our breathing, to relax and focus our mind. That’s the whole thing - that’s the entire process and the goal of meditation.

However, in hypnosis we are guided and induced into a deeply relaxed and focused state of mind - but only as a first step. Once that state, called a “trance”, is achieved, the hypnotist moves us to a second step where they deepen our trance and our experience and awareness become even more relaxed and and open to suggestion. Only then    does the hypnotist begin the third step, which is to give our subconscious mind specific suggestions in order to help us shift, learn, change and reach for certain goals – like quitting nicotine and stopping smoking forever.

14. Can Hypnosis Help Me with Weight Loss?

Yes – hypnosis is a very effective tool for supporting weight loss. Hypnosis does this by influencing how one thinks and feels about food, wellness, self-esteem, confidence, and even exercise.
